Leatt’s story began in 2001 in Cape Town, South Africa, when a motocross accident claimed the life of a fellow rider during an event that Dr. Chris Leatt’s son was taking part in. As both a rider and a medical doctor, Dr. Leatt was deeply affected and driven to act. That experience sparked years of research and development, leading to the release of the first Leatt neck brace in 2004 — a product designed specifically to reduce the risk of severe neck and spinal injuries.
It was the first of its kind, and it set a new benchmark for rider protection.
